PRODUCT CERTIFICATION
Houston is hard on windows. Consider the effects of the following:
- Our clay soil is constantly contracting and expanding, causing our houses to shift, and putting dynamic pressures on the windows.
- Hurricanes and tropical storms occasionally blow through with their damaging winds and torrential downpours which cause rain to be blown horizontally.
- Extreme heat and humidity cause exterior products to contract and expand to their maximum capability - and beyond.
In order to stand-up to these natural forces, a window must be well constructed, and thoroughly tested. There are two non-profit, national organizations that test and certify windows and doors; AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) and NFRC (National Fenestration Rating Council). These organizations allow consumers, architects, and contractors to compare competing products on an "apples-to-apples" basis and serve as the backbone of the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Star program.
Ultra Windows will not sell and/or install products which are not certified by both the AAMA & NFRC. There is no other agency which can provide trustworthy documentation of a window's performance.
Without third party certification, all you have is a contractor's promise of quality!
